D.C. Gun Ban

Very soon the U.S. Supreme Court will be reviewing a 30 year old gun ban for the District Of Columbia . The court will be deliberating on whether or not the gun ban goes against the Second Amendment , and would therefore be considered unconstitutional . Outside of Roe v. Wade this is one of the most fought over pieces of legislation in U.S. government . I personally believe that you should have the right to own , and if you fill necessary carry a hand gun . Please note i said Handgun not , Sub machine Guns or Automatic Rifles with enough ammo to mow down a small division of attacking troops . Please i don't want my patriotic brothers and sisters to misunderstand me , if you feel the need to own those types of weapons then by all means do so . However I'm sure you can see my point when i say that seeing mom at a Wal-Mart with three children in tow and an M-16A2 strapped across her back......it just doesn't work . Those weapons would be better served in the home , not at a P.T.A meeting . To me the idea of disarming the populace to protect it is naive thinking at its worse . I'd like to offer an actual case for your consideration . On March 16, 1975 three women who shared a townhouse were beaten , raped , and sodomized by two men . One of the women had a room down stairs while the other two had rooms upstairs .The woman down stairs was attacked first , but while this was taking place one of the women upstairs called the police . When the police arrived the patrol car merely slowed past the townhouse and continued on . The woman frantically called the police again but this time got no response . After an hour had passed with no sound coming from down stairs the two women called after their friend to see if she were alright unaware that the rapist had yet to leave the townhouse . Alerted to the fact that two more women were upstairs what followed was 14 hours of sexual torture . The women sued the District of Columbia but lost the case . The D.C. Superior Court ruled as follows " a government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services , such as police protection , to any particular individual citizen . " Soon after this ruling the D.C. City Council imposed the gun ban . If those women had been armed and had the proper training i dare say that outcome may have been a little different .
